Blue Bamboo was started in 2001 after Linda's husband told her to "get a job." Nine years later we have expanded from the spare bedroom in Linda's house to a 2500 square foot store in Plymouth, MN. It's been an incredible journey for everyone involved! Linda Vikla was the owner who had the original vision for Blue Bamboo. She had developed a love for Asian fabrics and designs from three years spent in Singapore. This interest would later give rise to one of the main things Blue Bamboo is now known for: an extensive and gorgeous Asian fabric collection. In 2008 she began working on her own pattern designs that are now available for purchase. Linda was diagnosed with terminal cancer on March 1st, 2010. She passed away on August 6th, 2010 after fighting incredibly hard against this devestating disease. She will be remembered by countless people for her incredible sense of humor, her beautiful laugh, and her zest for life. Liz Vikla is Linda's daughter, and only child. After graduating from college with a BA in English Lit and Creative Writing, she helped start Blue Bamboo while working for various companies. Finally Blue Bamboo got too big for Linda to handle on her own, and Liz became the company's first official employee. Many of the kits on the site have been created by Liz; showcasing her natural talent for picking color and textures. Liz has officially taken over Blue Bamboo as the owner to further her mom's dream business. She currently lives in Plymouth, MN with her pet bunny, Ebony.
